My research interests primarily focus on the interaction between marine mammal foraging behaviour and the surrounding environment, more generally how this can inform conservation planning in the ocean. I am currently involved in research on Antarctic fur seals, grey seals and harbour seals in trialling devices (oceanographic tags, digital cameras) to provide additional insight into foraging behaviour. I have also recently become involved in research into diving physiology - in particular, shallow water blackout and decompression sickness. Prior to this, I was involved in studies of the foraging ecology of northern bottlenose whales in eastern Canada (for my PhD research), the diving behaviour of cetaceans in Hawaii, and the foraging behaviour of Antarctic fur seals (with the British Antarctic Survey).
